My Opinion on the Bailout

by Azreel | September 30th, 2008

Lawdog has posted a summary of his thoughts on the bailout that I feel very closely mirror mine.

If Congress presents legislation for a 700 billion dollar bail-out, with the provision that all Federal Welfare Acts will be repealed at the same time …

Okay, you’ve got my support.

Quid pro quo, Gentle Readers. Something for something.

If Congress presents legislation for a 700 billion dollar bail-out, with the added provision that the National Firearms Act of 1934, the Federal Firearms Act of 1938 and the Gun Control Act of 1968 are repealed …

Okay, you’ve got my support.

That’s what it’s going to take.

You put your heads together and come up with 700 billion dollars worth of meddlesome, unConstitutional, pork-barrel, ignorant, illogical, crap Federal laws — you tie their repeal to the bail-out — and we’ll talk.

Until then — no. You do not get my support.

I’d like to also suggest lowering the corporate tax rate to 15% and eliminating the capital gains tax. Fire the entire board of directors of Fannnie and Freddie and hire replacements with a salary cap of $500,000 with a $1,000,000.00 bonus for every year they keep the entity operating in the black. Oh, and make ALL financial records for Fannie and Freddie easily accessible on the web. You know, while we’re at it, I find Paulson’s suggestion that we just write them a blank check and not be allowed to insist on some transparency and oversight appalling. Why don’t we make ALL government functions more transparent. No more closed door meetings of the Senate Finance Committee. Post a transcript of each meeting online. It’s my money and I demand to see how it’s spent and managed.
