Injury report

by Azreel | April 28th, 2006

Sooo…. I got to visit the Emergency Room tonight.

The hospital discharge papers say: “You have suffered from a splinter”

That’s a bit of an understatement. They had to get a surgeon to go into my thigh and remove a pencil sized chunk of wood that had broken off below the skin and embedded itself into my thigh muscles. They had to take six X-rays to make sure the “splinter” wasn’t near or in the femoral artery and to make sure it hadn’t embedded into the bone. Wood doesn’t normally show up well on X-rays, but when it’s this big… The pain was excrutiating… until the chunk of tree came out. Then it was fine for a while, until the inflammation started.

I got to get a tetanus shot (when the heck did they start sticking those into your deltoids??) and I’m loaded up on enough antibiotics to put a yogurt plant out of business for years. I turned down the hydrocodone script: I hate being loopy on pain killers. Plus, I can’t work on them. Sooo… it’s NSAIDs and acetominophen for me.

I’ve loaded up on some creatine, taurine, glucosamine, and protein supplements to help speed up the muscle healing.

Work will be fun tomorrow. Yay.
