Orwell Wasn’t Wrong, Just 18 Years Off

Looking at the poster that has been posted at bus and tube stations in London really makes one wonder – what in the world were they thinking? I mean, sure, they ARE watching, and you’re NOT paranoid, but to simply come out with such a poster seems downright brazen.

Read on for images and details.

With the ever increasing numbers of CCTV, facial recognition software, data mining, GPS and cell phone tracking, and other monitoring systems, it was likely inevitable that we achieve an Orwellian level of snooping. That fact aside, the most uncomfortable part is the lack of public outcry, and now the brazenness with which posters such as these are used. One read through the privacy statement issued by TfL is more than enough to make one wish to avoid public transportation and roadways in London at all costs.

Combine this increasing lack of privacy with the loss of protection for civil liberties, and the increase in laws designed to restrict the those liberties more and more, and you have a system that begins to rival the fictional London of 1984.
